We have come across loads of jobs where the customer has tried to go about it themselves.
Believe it or not; we turned up to a job once in hamilton where a man was trying to start syphoning petrol with a hoover (plugged into the mains) with a length of hose taped to the end (only to get it started he said) luckily we got there before it did start.
Another one we turned up to was a job in a petrol station in Bearsden where a man had begun to siphon his van with a hose and bucket directly at the pumps – a big no-no. We were surprised no member of trained staff pulled him up for it. There could have been a catastrophic effect if anything had managed to ignite it especially with all the petrol vapour in around the petrol pumps.
We take health and safety very seriously!
- We have the latest atex approved, and UN stamped fuel draining equipment.
2. Our staff are fully trained in handling and storing fuel safely.
3. Our staff are SPA safety qualified.
4. We are SEPA registered to carry and store waste fuel.
Petrol is a very potent substance I would never recommend trying this yourself unless you have the correct tools + storage!
