This one was pulled from the dealership due to landrover’s zero-tolerance policy on the wrong fuel. Landrover has a set procedure for every customer that cars still under warranty, which includes changing every component of the fuel system.
This customer was quoted over £8000!!! to “fix” his car.
Our customer had put 60 litres of petrol in his diesel and driven it (approx. 10miles). The vehicle had then been picked up by a breakdown company who would ONLY drop him at the dealership.
After a bit of messing around from the dealership, the customer called us last night for a second opinion. After giving him some advice, he had his car booked in with us this morning at a fraction of the cost.
After having his car towed home as we were “not allowed” to do a fuel drain on their site, we arrived at 8:00 am this morning and got to work.
We drained the fuel system and then flushed it through with fresh diesel. We then primed up the system, and after two turns of the key, it started!
We then added in a fuel additive which improved the lubrication to the fuel system the which decreases due to having petrol in the fuel system!
It only took us a total of 45 minutes to have this car sorted!!
We saved this customer ££££’s, and it’s not the first or last time it will happen, yesterday we done a job in Edinburgh for a couple who’s Mercedes was misfueled. They put 9 litres of petrol into their empty diesel tank. They did not start or drive the car; however, they called there Mercedes roadside assist. When the Mercedes assist driver arrived, he had to put the car in to neutral as it was an automatic. To get it on his truck, he had to activate the ignition for this (which primes the fuel pump and would have drawn a small amount of petrol through the fuel system).
When the main dealer got round to looking at it, they advised the couple as the system was primed that the fuel pump would be contaminated and would need to be changed. They were quoted £700 for this and to drain the tank, again like the previous job they called us for a second opinion. After some advice they booked in with us, we again saved the customer over £500!!
