Plant and Machinery Fuel Draining Service
Plant Machinery Fuel Drain Specialist
Plant equipment and agricultural machinery run on diesel across almost every application, and the fuel systems involved vary far more widely than in passenger vehicles. A tractor, a telehandler, a digger, a combine harvester, a generator, and an agricultural sprayer all have different fuel systems and different tank volumes. When wrong fuel goes in, though, the principles of recovery are the same.
We’ve drained fuel from tractors large and small, diggers, excavators, skid steers, generators, lawnmowers, ride-on mowers and agricultural machinery of all kinds. Plant and machinery callouts regularly involve larger fuel tanks than passenger vehicles, and some agricultural equipment carries substantial volumes. For large tank jobs, additional units or multiple runs are used as required.
The starting price for plant and machinery fuel drain is from £129, with the final cost based on the vehicle type, tank volume and contamination situation. Our technician discusses everything on arrival before starting. For machinery that can’t easily be moved to an alternative location, we attend on site, farm yards, building sites, industrial premises and agricultural land are all locations we work at regularly.

AdBlue® in Tractor
Tractor AdBlue® Recovery
Modern tractors running on Euro Stage V engines carry AdBlue® systems as standard, and AdBlue® contamination in tractor fuel systems is one of the more common agricultural machinery callouts we attend.
- Farms storing AdBlue® in bulk alongside diesel are higher-risk environments: shared dispensing points, time pressure and poor lighting all create realistic opportunities for the wrong fluid to go into the wrong filler
- AdBlue® in a tractor diesel tank introduces urea chemistry the fuel system was never designed for: the urea crystallises as the system heats, blocking the fuel filter and threatening the injectors, specialist decontamination treatment is required, not a standard drain
- Diesel in the tractor’s AdBlue® reservoir is the reverse problem, affecting the dosing pump, supply lines and SCR nozzle
AdBlue® tractor recovery starts from £275. Call us and describe the situation before we come out.
Tractor Fuel Drain
Agricultural Machinery Fuel Drain
Tractors are among the most frequently misfuelled pieces of agricultural machinery we deal with, and the reasons are specific to the farm environment. Multiple people may be responsible for fuelling the same tractor across a working week. Red diesel and standard diesel look identical. AdBlue® is stored in containers of similar size to other farm fluids. The conditions for a misfuelling incident are present on most working farms every day.
The injection systems on modern agricultural tractors are sophisticated common rail systems with high-pressure pumps and precision injectors that are just as vulnerable to petrol contamination as any passenger vehicle. Older tractors with simpler injection systems have slightly more tolerance, but they are not immune, and the tank volumes involved mean more contaminated fuel to extract if the engine has run.
Engine off is the most important immediate instruction, whether it’s a compact tractor or a 300-horsepower field machine. Call us once the machine is in a safe position, and we’ll come to the location with the appropriate equipment. Fuel drain from £129.
Plant Machinery Fuel Drain Cost
Agricultural Fuel Drain Cost
Plant and machinery fuel drain pricing starts from £129 and is confirmed on arrival based on the specific equipment and situation.
- Tank volume is the main variable for plant and agricultural machinery: large tractors, combine harvesters and substantial generators carry significantly more fuel than a passenger car, and the cost reflects the actual recovery scope
- AdBlue® contamination in plant machinery starts from £275, and involves specialist decontamination treatment rather than a standard drain
- For very large tanks or multiple pieces of equipment at the same location, we discuss the full approach and cost before starting any work
Nothing additional proceeds without agreement. We don’t start and then price it afterwards.
AdBlue® in Plant Machinery
Plant Machinery AdBlue® Recovery
AdBlue® contamination isn’t limited to tractors, any Euro Stage V plant machinery carrying an AdBlue® system can be affected.
- Telehandlers, excavators and modern farm machinery increasingly carry AdBlue® systems: wrong fluid, degraded AdBlue® or farm storage contamination can affect any of them
- The symptoms are the same as in other vehicles: SCR warning lights, reduced performance mode and in some cases a countdown to engine shutdown that won’t resolve until the AdBlue® system fault is cleared
- Running plant machinery on contaminated AdBlue® accelerates dosing pump wear and risks SCR nozzle crystal formation: the sooner it’s dealt with, the less there is to undo
AdBlue® plant machinery recovery from £275. Call us with the machine type and location.
Digger Fuel Drain
Construction Plant Fuel Drain
Diggers, excavators, skid steers and other construction plant equipment run on diesel and are susceptible to the same wrong fuel problems as any other diesel machinery. On busy construction sites where multiple fuel types and fluids are dispensed from a service vehicle or bowser, the opportunity for wrong fluid to reach the wrong machine is real.
A digger that’s been filled with petrol instead of diesel, or that has taken on water contamination from poorly maintained bulk storage, needs the fuel drained and the system flushed before further operation. Construction plants tend to run hard, short periods of operation on contaminated fuel can cause more stress to the injection system than the same period in a lightly loaded passenger vehicle.
We attend construction sites and carry out recoveries on site. The machinery doesn’t need to go to a workshop. Let us know the site address and the machine type. We’ll come with the right kit. Fuel drain from £129.
Generator Fuel Drain
Generator Wrong Fuel Recovery
Generators are among the more unusual fuel drain callouts we deal with, and the scenarios vary considerably.
- Standby generators filled with petrol instead of diesel are a risk in any facility that also keeps petrol on site for other equipment: the generator fuel tank is often a standalone fill point that receives less attention than vehicle fuelling
- Water contamination in a generator fuel tank is a common problem in machines that sit in standby mode for extended periods, particularly those stored outdoors or in damp conditions
- Degraded diesel in a generator that hasn’t run for months is another scenario we deal with: old diesel oxidises and forms deposits that affect fuel system performance when the generator is called on
We drain, flush and refill generators as well as vehicle fuel systems. If the generator is at a fixed installation, we attend on site. Call us with the location and describe what’s happened.
Static Tank Fuel Drain
Bulk Fuel Tank Drain
We also deal with static fuel tanks, bulk diesel storage used on farms, construction sites and commercial premises when contamination has made the fuel unusable.
- Water from condensation, a poorly sealed lid or flooding can contaminate a full bulk tank: water in diesel doesn’t separate cleanly and causes filter blockages and injector problems across any equipment fuelled from it
- Microbial growth in diesel bulk storage, commonly called diesel bug, produces black sludge that blocks filters and injectors across every machine fuelled from the affected tank
- Wrong fluid added to a bulk storage tank affects everything subsequently fuelled from it: the contamination spreads across the fleet rather than staying in one vehicle
We drain and treat static bulk tanks as well as vehicle and equipment fuel systems. Call us and describe the tank volume and the contamination situation.
Plant Machinery Wrong Fuel
Wrong Fuel in Agricultural Vehicle
Agricultural and plant machinery presents some specific wrong fuel scenarios that don’t apply in the same way to road vehicles.
Red diesel and standard road diesel are chemically almost identical. Mixing them doesn’t damage the fuel system, though using red diesel in a vehicle where it isn’t permitted is a separate compliance matter. Petrol, however, causes the same lubrication damage in agricultural diesel injection systems as it does in any other diesel engine, and the consequences are just as serious.
AdBlue® is the most common source of serious contamination in modern agricultural equipment. Farms store multiple fluids in similar containers, and under time pressure on a busy working day, the wrong one goes into the wrong filler. The engine-off instruction applies to a tractor just as firmly as it does to a car. Call us as soon as the wrong fluid is discovered, before the machine runs on it.

Contaminated Fuel Plant Machinery
Plant Machinery Fuel Recovery
Contaminated fuel in plant and agricultural machinery covers a wider range of scenarios than simple misfuelling, and we deal with all of them.
- Diesel bug is particularly common in farm storage: large tanks sitting partially full across seasons are ideal for microbial growth, and the sludge blocks filters and injectors in every machine fuelled from the affected supply
- Water contamination from condensation in bulk storage, a damaged tank breather or flood exposure affects fuel quality progressively over time and causes rough running and filter problems before drivers notice anything obvious
- Degraded fuel from equipment returning from long-term storage needs draining and replacing before the machine is put back into service
Call us and describe the situation. We advise over the phone before coming out, and attend with the appropriate equipment for the specific job.
Plant and Machinery Fuel Drain Faqs
Can you drain a large agricultural tractor or combine harvester?
Yes. We drain agricultural machinery of all sizes, including large tractors, telehandlers and combine harvesters. For machines with large fuel tanks, we use additional units or make multiple runs as required. The cost is based on the actual scope of the job, confirmed before we start. We attend on-site at the farm or field location.
How much does plant and machinery fuel drain cost?
Standard fuel drain starts from £129. AdBlue contamination recovery starts from £275. For larger equipment with greater tank volumes, the cost reflects the additional scope and is discussed on arrival before any work begins. Nothing starts without your agreement.
Can you deal with AdBlue® contamination in a tractor or agricultural machine?
Yes. Euro Stage V agricultural machinery carries AdBlue® systems, and contamination of those systems, whether from wrong filler use, degraded AdBlue® or wrong fluid in the AdBlue® reservoir, requires specialist recovery. We carry specialist AdBlue decontamination equipment and attend farm locations across Scotland.
Do you recover generators as well as vehicles and tractors?
Yes. We drain and flush generators, including standby generators at fixed installations. Common scenarios include petrol filled instead of diesel, water contamination from damp storage conditions, and degraded diesel in machines that sit on standby for extended periods. We attend on-site at fixed generator installations.
Can you deal with diesel bug in a bulk storage tank or farm tank?
Yes. Diesel bug in bulk storage is a recurring problem on farms and at commercial fuel points. We drain and treat static bulk tanks as well as vehicle and machinery fuel systems. If the source tank is contaminated, every machine fuelled from it is at risk. Call us to discuss the full scope of what’s needed.
Do you attend farm sites and remote agricultural locations?
Yes. Farm yards, fields, agricultural land and rural sites are regular callout locations for us. For remote or restricted-access locations, give us the details when you call and we’ll confirm what’s needed before dispatching. We carry equipment suited to on-site recovery rather than requiring the machinery to be brought to a workshop.
What if wrong fuel has been added to multiple pieces of equipment from the same source?
Call us and describe the full situation. If a contaminated bulk storage tank has been used to fuel multiple machines, the recovery scope is more involved than a single-vehicle callout. We assess the situation, advise on the correct approach and confirm costs before starting any work. Dealing with the source tank is part of addressing the problem properly.
How does red diesel affect the recovery situation?
Red diesel and standard road diesel are chemically similar, and mixing them doesn’t cause fuel system damage, though there may be compliance implications if red diesel is used in vehicles where it isn’t permitted. What matters for fuel system health is whether petrol, AdBlue or water contamination is present. If you’re unsure what’s in the tank, describe the situation and we’ll advise.
Do you cover construction site plant equipment as well as agricultural machinery?
Yes. Diggers, excavators, skid steers and other construction plant are within scope. We attend construction sites and carry out recoveries on site. Call us with the site address and the machine type.
Can Simple Fuel Solutions recover plant machinery that has been run on contaminated fuel?
Yes. If plant machinery has operated on wrong fuel before the problem was identified, switch it off immediately and call us. The recovery scope depends on how long it ran and what was in the tank, but it doesn’t mean the situation can’t be resolved. We assess everything on arrival and go through what’s needed before starting work.
